Questions
you may ask...
How are the servers funded?
The LFS servers are not intended to be a profit-making enterprise,
but need to justify their existence and try to pay for themselves.
Currently on a trial period, they are funded partly from pay-per-click
advertising revenue, and also by sales at slotcarcentre.co.uk. So
if LFS racers visit our site and find an interesting sponsor
ad to click on, that helps to pay for the servers, but it's by
no means mandatory. And if LFS racers are ever looking for somewhere
to buy slot racing cars and equipment for themselves, friends
or relatives, hopefully they will think of us first - extra sales
driven to our web store will also help to pay server costs.
All web traffic passing through this site is tracked so if visitor
numbers drop off we can take action to reduce costs if necessary.
Fortunately we also enjoy running the servers and participating
in the racing, so cost is not the only consideration. Otherwise
there are no charges for you for racing on the server, once you
have your S2 licence, it's FREE!
Are there any plans for leagues or championships?
Not
at the moment, but maybe in the future if there is sufficient interest.
Meantime the Airio tracker provides a basic points system over the
series of successive races on each track.
Surely slot car racing is
better than on-line racing? (or)
Surely on-line racing is better than slot car racing? Why would
you want to do both?
Some people will prefer, or have
easier access to, one or the other. Some people just can't get
on with video games and prefer the challenge of collecting, racing
or tuning slot cars. Perhaps they don't have the computer knowledge
or equipment. Others brought up in the videogame age will find
the immersive on-line experience preferable to racing and tuning
up a slot car - especially if they don't have any nearby slot car
clubs, or friends with slot car collections to race against. But
the best thing is, they are complementary pastimes, involving
the same basic underlying interest in motor racing, knowledge-base
and many of the same skills and mental challenges, and the internet
communities for each are similar in outlook and content. If there is a difference, you could say that slot cars are more about mechanics, car tuning, design and collectability, whereas sim racing is more about 3D realism, full-field competition, strategy and tactics. But if you
want to, you can do both and succeed
at both. This web site, our web shop and LFS server is all about
helping people to do just that.
Where do I find setups and different racing
liveries for my cars?
Make use of the facilities of Setupgrid or Team
Inferno to download setups for specific cars on specific circuits.
These you store in the /setups folder of your LFS data folder on
your computer and then they will be selectable in-game. For liveries
("skins") visit LFS
Skins Community, or LFS
Resource - these go in the /skins folder so you can choose them
from the list in the garage. There are many other sites providing
LFS setups and skins if you ask Google. You can also make your own
skins if you are handy with tools such as Photoshop, using the templates
and tutorials of Master
Skinnerz.
